Story of an Unforgettable Boat Expedition in the Philippines
My girlfriend and I only booked one hotel in advanced before going to the Philippines. That was a mistake, but we still managed to have a memorable time mostly thanks to a stranger.
Let me tell you our story.
At the airport, an hour or so before our Air China flight (the one that made us swear to never book with Air China again), we met an employee who just came back from the Philippines.
We took the habit to ask people who went their what was their highlight of their trip, so that we can look into it. Beside reading blogs, this was our main source of ideas.
When we asked the airport guy, he told us about those kind of cruises on traditional boats during which you get to visit the best beaches and snorkeling spots, and you sleep on heavenly islands.
He basically said that it was a no brainer, we had to do it, even though it seemed expensive.
He was right!
We started our trip in the Philippines in the Palawan region, going from South to North. We arrived by plane at Puerto Princesa and would go all the way to Coron, stopping at Port Barton (a must) and El Nido along the way, before leaving the Palawan.
To go from El Nido to Coron Island, we could have taken the plane, which would have saved time for the rest of our trip.
However, the Palawan Islands are so beautiful and natural that we did not want to leave this early (neither should you).
We decided to look into the boat expeditions that could take us from El Nido to Coron the airport guy told us about.
