Cybersecurity started quite some time ago, with a worm to create awareness that connectivity will introduce new threats to IT.(Morris Worm)

Cybersecurity is important, we all have data we need to protect. There are multiple standards that can be used to assist with the process of securing your information assets or environment.

Models used to secure themselves = CNSS model

Security vs Privacy:

think about your house, you have alarms and burglar bars for security, but you also have curtains and doors for privacy, the same applies to data protection. Security can be physical security like a biometric reader or lock.

Privacy will relate to are you allowed to open this file or document.

Cybersecurity manager ensures that cyber research is done and threats are acted and reported on.

Business needs to be prepared, or at least be in a preparation stage. These threats are real and we need to reduce our risk. There are multiple resource available to guide businesses in preparing their readiness, create awareness amongst staff and have an effective communication plan regarding security.

We need to plan our next steps and reassess the work that has been done, ask questions, have we done enough, is this safe, can we do more with little or now impact, what are the impact if we do this or do that. what are the benefits if we enable certain security features, or disable certain system functions. Have we trained our staff, and do they know how to suspect an intrusion attempt or virus?

We need to document our standards and ensure that Policies and procedures are in place, to ensure that we are regulatory compliant, we have a set standard of use and that we know what to do, should things go wrong.
