Some People Say That Dreams Can Predict the Future

A very short, but very terrifying, story. Beware.

Water flooded my throat. They pressed right on that spot that makes you feel like throwing up. I felt my gastric acid climbing up, burning. But it didn’t manage getting out. Heavy water pushed it down and my stomach inflated. My chest too. It became heavier and heavier, dragging me down. My hands struggled, but the waves were too strong. I wanted to breathe, I wanted to breathe, my whole body wanted to breathe… I knew I’m about to sink endlessly, until something big will come and take me. I felt those creatures. They were swimming in circles below me, and I sank towards them. I just wanted to breathe…

“Oh!” I opened my eyes, and breathed. I breathed fast, as much as possible, so I won’t run out of air. I felt the softness under me. Holy shit.

It’s the same dream every time. I go to bed at night, and in a minute I find myself being dragged to the bottom of the sea. Drowning, drowning, not breathing… it feels just as real every time. I’m supposed to know this dream by heart!

I sat up. The sky was blue.

This dream gets me every time, and I don’t understand what it means. Some people say that dreams can predict the future, but I really hope they’re wrong. I hope I will never have to feel the waves dragging me down, my oxygen running out… I hope to stay on dry land my entire life. Stop it, that’s enough. There’s no sea and no nothing. And certainly no boats.

I got up and looked at the horizon.

The waves were licking the sand.

“Did I fall asleep on the beach? Oh, great. This explains this dream.”

I saw nothing but sea, stretching all around me. I looked right, and the sea was there. I looked left, and the sea was there. I turned around, and the sea was there.

My clothes were drenched.

The sun was hot.

The island was so small I could see all of it.

No tress, no caves, no people.

Oh.

Oh, fuck.

A bird chirped above me. Calling her friends.

They’ll all come soon, when I’ll lie on the sand.

I had this dream once, where birds were plucking out my eyeb…

Oh, fuck.
