The Art of Being a Planner and Searcher
When problem is coming to handle, we will understand there are two types of people in facing it: Searchers and Planners. Both of them see the problem and find the solution. Searchers see a need, identify a feasible solution, the best way that they can do immediately and find the resources required to get started, then start running. Planners see a need, identify the best solution, make a grand design, find the resources required to finish the job, and launch only when success is assured.
Surely, becoming Planner is fully challenging, we are going to assume the solution from the offside. We believe what we’ll do is good choice for a particular problem.
As a Searcher, it’s tangible and mobile. We strive to find the solution within the inside on and on. Trial — Error — Prove — Evaluate all the processes.
Uuuuuupss….
Okay, let’s sharpen it.
We are going to talk about Planner and Searcher in Social Community. Let’s say in Aid Program, you find case-by-case in helping people. You are in it and able to feel the process inside. In general, you’ll have a leader and team. When, an issue comes to solve together, you could not jump into the problem directly without waiting the permission from your leader. At the same time, you see the problem potentially is going bigger and need something to do. What will you do at first? How of your leader said hold on, we need to finish all the things done in the beginning before starting to run. In other side, you look at your team member make an initiative to handle touchable things.
So, the example above. Your leader was predictable as a Planner and your team member as a Searcher.
I cited an article, it says:
What’s kind of insight that you get? Personally, I feel planning is often overrated and sometimes even counterproductive. It takes long-term commitments that we don’t need— as well as plans that can’t be revised — and to keep our planning horizons short and sure we will don’t know what happens in the future which is highly uncertain, but it can be just as useful in other circumstances.
.. and I ain’t totally agree, we should do the initiatives quickly. Preparation also is a key of successful movement. It’s maybe related to:
No matter what’s role as long as you are enthusiastic enough to fulfill your responsibility and sometimes doing great things do not always bound with our roles. Indeed, we could be both of them functionally, as a Planner and a Searcher.
I don’t mean to suggest that planning is useless before.
Herb Kelleher, the co-founder and former CEO of Southwest Airlines, had a firm stance on such matters: “We have a strategic plan. It’s called doing things.”
